What You Need to Know about Egypt Visas
Before you can see the Great Pyramids (Want to create pyramid replicas? see how to build an Egyptian pyramid), you will need an Egyptian visa. A visa is required for you to stay in the country for a period of time. Whether you are an exchange student, a tourist, a business person or a diplomat, you have to present this travel document along with a passport.
Some visas are obtained upon arrival in the country for citizens of various countries, while some need to be processed at the consulate before departure from the country of origin. It is a good idea to check with the Egyptian consulate in your country which applies to you.
Types Available
Tourist Visa- If you are visiting the country for sightseeing, tours, vacation, and the like, you should apply for this type of visa. It is valid for a week, but you can have it extended by applying for a visa extension.
Business Visa- If you are visiting the country for official business purposes like attending a conference or participating in a training session, conducting business with an Egypt-based organization, or negotiating for an exploratory business visit, this is the type of visa you need.
Diplomatic or Official Visa- Government officials and their staff, along with members of the diplomatic communities and their families carry this form of visa.
Work or Student Visa- For employment or studies in Egypt, you need to acquire this type of visa. Some of the requirements you will need to submit include an official letter from your employer, as well as an admission letter from the institution where you will be studying.
Requirements
For the tourist visa, you have to secure the following: passport, travel documents like the tickets for your flight, bookings, and a vaccination certificate for yellow fever if you are arriving from an infected area.
For the business visa, you will also need passport, and the tickets or documents for your return, plus vaccination certificates if necessary. The same is true for diplomatic or official visas. For employment and student visas, you will need additional documents such as the official confirmation or invitation letter from the company or institution you will be attending.
Corresponding application forms must also be completed and don’t forget your passport-type photograph.
