What You Need to Know about a Philippines Visas

A visa is an endorsement made by the consulate on your travel document at an embassy or consulate of the country you are going to. In most countries, such as in the Philippines, this seal indicates that your visa application has been granted and you are permitted to enter the country. Along with a visa, you also need the approval of the immigration authorities to stay in the country.

If you are visiting the country for tourism or business purposes for a time period not exceeding twenty-one days, you may not need a visa as long as you have your valid tickets for the return journey to show as proof.

Types Available

The Philippines embassy or consular office in your country may issue a tourist visa, business visa, student visa, as well as a diplomatic visa.

A tourist visa allows you to enter the country to see the various wonders of the archipelago or to attend some cultural exchanges. A business visa permits you to visit the country for business purposes like attending conferences, arranging business meetings, or negotiating for business.

Another type of visa is the student visa, which is issued to exchange students, or to foreigners who want to pursue degrees in the country. A diplomatic visa is for members of the diplomatic community who are on a mission in the country.

Requirements

The most basic requirement for any type of Philippines visa is your passport. For tourist and business travel, documents like the return tickets are required. If you are entering for studies, you will need an official letter from the academic institution you are going to attend.

Generally, you will need the following documents:

  • Completed application form for the specific type of visa you are applying for
  • Passport type photograph
  • Copy of travel itinerary
  • Copy of credit card authorization forms
  • Copy of recent bank statement
  • Other business documents for business visa type
  • Fees

Additional Information

Registering with your country’s embassy or consulate in the Philippines is a wise thing to do as untoward incidents may occur, like losing your passport and visa inside it. This helps your embassy provide you with better services, which include locating individuals in cases of emergencies, relaying safety information about the country, arranging transportation in case of disaster, and issuing replacement passports when lost.
